Welcome
The Custer Institute and Observatory is Long Island's oldest public observatory (est. 1927). Open to the public every Saturday evening from dusk until midnight, our staff of volunteers will give you a tour of the facilities and the night sky through our powerful telescopes. Custer has a library, museum, and giftshop. Frequent lectures, classes, concerts, art exhibits and other special events. Consider our observatory for your next meeting or theme party.

Sat., Dec. 13, 9:00 PM - midnight GEMINID METEOR SHOWER PEAK PARTY
The meteors from this shower originate from asteroid 3200 Phaethon and seem to radiate from the constellation Gemini. The shower
extends from Dec. 6-25 and peaks on Dec. 13. The Geminids can average about 120 meteors per hour. Viewing will be more difficult
due to the light from the full moon (10/12) but we still should be able to see quite a few. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and join us as we
watch--and listen via radio astronomy equipment--for another one of nature's fabulous sky shows. Suggested donation is the general
admission rate of $5 per adult, $3 children, free for Members.
